In the case of a loop pile: you can try gently sanding down the top with a saw blade or a hacksaw to make the spot less visible.

With a cut pile: if only the top of the fibre is discoloured, you can cut off the top of the yarn locally. The lower height of the yarn is in almost all cases less noticeable than a discoloured yarn.
