Is there anything left to be done regarding rubber migration?

01

Cause

Long-lasting contact between vinyl or LVT and rubber (such as from a car tyre, bicycle tyre, wheelchair or office chair wheels, a rubber entrance mat or rubber caps (protective caps under furniture).

02

Explanation

Due to a chemical reaction of rubber and vinyl, rubber migration takes place resulting in black stains or a dark discolouration on and in the top layer of the floor.

03

Solution

In the case of early rubber stains:James Remover may still be able to remove the stain . If it has already migrated into the top layer it cannot be removed by cleaning. Should this be the case permanent damage has been caused to the floor. Please note: the alternative solution below may work very well, but may also locally affect the embossing (structure) of your floor which cannot be repaired. Scratches caused by using sandpaper can often be camouflaged with the James products.

Try carefully (without damaging the rest of the floor) sanding away the discolouration with sandpaper, so that the spot is less or no longer visible. If the discolouration is too deeply located in the top layer of the floor, it is better not to sand any further. Scratches will be visible due to sanding. Did you succeed in removing the discolouration? Scratches in the floor can then often be camouflaged by using James Extra Matt or James Semi Gloss.
