James Semi Gloss forms a removable protective layer on moisture-resistant hard floors. This layer helps to protect your floor from dirt, scratches and superficial damage. As a result, signs of wear appear on the protective layer rather than directly on the floor itself. This makes maintenance easier and extends the life of your floor.
The protective coating is transparent, has a silk-matt finish and makes the floor dirt-repellent. This will keep your floor looking good for longer and make day-to-day maintenance easier. James Semi Gloss is designed for regular protection and should be applied after the floor has been thoroughly cleaned with James Basic Cleaner.
Use James Semi Gloss if you want to give your hard floor extra protection against everyday wear and tear. For example, immediately after laying a new floor, or when an existing floor begins to show scratches, slight signs of wear or superficial damage.
This product is also ideal if your floor has started to look a bit worn over time and you want to refresh its appearance with a silk-matt finish. For best results, the floor must first be completely clean. You should therefore first remove old residue, dirt and previous layers of maintenance product using James Basic Cleaner. James Semi Gloss then adheres well, creating a smooth protective layer.

When should you use James Semi Gloss?
James Semi Gloss should be used as a protective step following a thorough initial clean. This product fits well into a maintenance routine where you first clean the floor with James Basic Cleaner, then protect it with James Semi Gloss, and finally carry out daily maintenance with James Floor Cleaner Clean & Quick dry.
Even if your floor looks too glossy or, conversely, could do with a more even, silk-matt finish, James Semi Gloss could be a good choice. If you’d like an more matt finish, James Extra Matt is probably a better choice. Are you unsure about the look? Test the product first on a small, representative area of the floor.

How do you use James Semi Gloss?
First, clean the floor thoroughly with James Basic Cleaner. Make sure you remove all the loosened dirt, wipe the floor with clean water and leave it to dry completely. Pour James Semi Gloss undiluted into a bucket and apply the product thinly and evenly using a clean, absorbent and lint-free cotton cloth or wax applicator.
Work in straight lines and avoid overlap, puddling or uneven distribution. Allow the applied coat to dry thoroughly before using the floor again. One 1-litre bottle is sufficient for approximately 20 m² per coat. Carry out a test on an area of approximately 1 m² beforehand to assess the final result.

How many coats of James Zijdemat should I apply?
Usually, one even coat is sufficient. If you want more protection or a fuller finish, a second coat may be advisable. Always allow the first coat to dry thoroughly before applying the next one.
When can I put the furniture back in place after installation?
Do not put the furniture back in place until the protective coating is completely dry. Lift furniture rather than dragging it. It is best to use good-quality felt pads to avoid damaging the new protective layer straight away.
Will James Semi Gloss make my floor slippery?
James Semi Gloss has been developed as a non-slip protective coating. Always apply the product in a thin, even layer. Using too much product or applying it unevenly may affect the final result.
What should I do if the coat dries streaky or unevenly?
Allow the floor to dry completely first, then assess the result. Streaks are often caused by applying the product too thickly, by overlapping, or by a surface that wasn’t clean enough. In that case, you can remove the coat using James Basic Cleaner and reapply it.
Can I use James Semi Gloss on a floor with underfloor heating?
Yes, that’s usually possible. Do make sure that the floor isn’t too warm whilst you’re applying it, so that the product doesn’t dry too quickly. Temporarily turn the underfloor heating down and let the surface dry thoroughly.
