Removing fruit juice stains
A glass of orange juice on the breakfast table, a toddler spilling apple juice or a dripping smoothie: fruit juice stains are easily made. The bright colours and sticky composition make these stains both noticeable and difficult to remove. Fruit juice can quickly soak into carpets, upholstery or porous floors in particular, leaving permanent marks.
The sooner you treat the stain, the greater the chance of a complete recovery. By waiting, you give the colourings and sugars in the juice a chance to settle deeper. Fortunately, fruit juice stains are easy to remove, provided you know what to do and what not to do. Below you will read how best to do this for each substrate.

Characteristics (anatomy) of a fruit juice stain
Fruit juice stains contain natural colourings, acids and sugars. These quickly penetrate fibres or pores and often leave a sticky, discoloured spot after drying. Especially with dark or red fruit juices – such as cherry, berry or grape – the colourings are strong and difficult to remove. On textiles, they may discolour or bleach if treated incorrectly. A haze, sticky layer or difference in gloss may appear on floors and furniture. If you leave the stain, the moisture will penetrate deeper and may attract dirt or start to smell.
Removing fruit juice stains from carpets or rugs
Fruit juice soaks into the carpet quickly, especially if it is thin or concentrated juice. The natural dyes adhere to the fibres, while sugars create a sticky layer that later attracts dirt. Discolouration is particularly noticeable on light-coloured carpets and can be difficult to remove.
If the stain is not treated immediately, the dyes may spread and cause permanent discolouration. Over time, the area may also become sticky or start to smell musty.
Only clean the area with the stain and do not get the carpet too wet. Use a suitable cleaner that is safe for carpets and effective against natural dyes. Dry the area afterwards and check that no residue or moisture remains.

Removing fruit juice stains from hard floors
On hard floors such as PVC, vinyl, LVT, laminate and natural stone, fruit juice can cause dull spots, stickiness or colour stains. The acids and sugars in the juice can cause differences in shine, especially if the moisture remains on the surface. Natural stone is particularly sensitive to acids, which can corrode the surface and cause permanent damage.
If you do not remove the stain immediately, the sugars will be absorbed into seams or pores. This creates a sticky layer that attracts dust and dirt. In addition, red or dark fruit juices can leave stains that are difficult to remove.
Remove the sap as quickly as possible and treat only the affected area. Use minimal moisture, avoid harsh chemicals, and ensure that you dry the floor thoroughly to prevent new stains.

Removing fruit juice stains from upholstery
A fruit juice stain on a sofa or chair can be tricky. The liquid is quickly absorbed into the fabric, leaving behind dyes, sugar and acids that, once dry, cause a sticky and often discoloured spot. The stain is particularly visible on light-coloured fabrics or coarse-woven upholstery.
If you don’t react quickly, the juice may soak into the filling. This not only causes permanent discolouration, but can also cause odour problems. In addition, the sugar attracts dirt, causing the spot to become increasingly darker.
Remove excess juice as quickly as possible and treat only the stain. Use a safe, gentle cleaner for furniture fabrics and work with minimal moisture. Dry the area thoroughly to prevent further damage or new rings.

Frequently asked questions and myths
There are all sorts of stories going around about how to remove stains caused by this fruit juice. From granny’s remedies to persistent tips from the internet – but what really works? In this section, we answer frequently asked questions and debunk a few myths. This allows you to get started with confidence.
Fruit juices contain natural colourants such as anthocyanins and carotenoids, which quickly soak into textiles or porous surfaces. These dyes are stubborn and adhere strongly to fibres or joints. This often leaves a red, orange or purple haze, even after most of the stain has been removed.
This home remedy is often mentioned, but its effect is limited. Carbon dioxide does not have a cleansing effect on colourings or sugars. At most, it will cause additional moisture, which may cause the stain to spread further. A specialised cleaner that can dissolve colourants is much more effective, especially for fruit-rich juices.
In addition to colourings, fruit juice also contains natural sugars. These remain behind as sticky residues that attract dirt. Even with a colourless or dried-up stain, that stickiness remains. Only deep cleaning that also removes sugar residues will prevent the area from becoming dirty or sticky again.
Both lemon juice and sunlight can lighten stains optically, but bleaching is not a real solution. It damages fibres and can make the stain more irregular. In addition, sugar residues and colour pigments simply remain behind. This approach camouflages more than it actually cleans, and does not work structurally.
Fruit sugars attract mould and bacteria that cause an acidic or spoiled odour. This can reappear, especially in warm, humid areas, even if the stain has disappeared visually. If the odour returns, this is a sign that residual contamination is still present and additional treatment is required.
