How can you remove ink stains?

Ink stains can be effectively removed in 9 out of 10 cases using James products. Depending on the surface area and the type of material on which the ink stain is located, you can use various methods and tools.

In addition, it is important to identify what type of ink is involved. Ink can be water-based or oil-based. This is crucial because different types of ink require different treatment methods.

Below, we will tell you more about the possible treatments for ink stains of various kinds and on various surfaces.

Removing ink from upholstery and carpet

To remove ink stains from sofas, upholstery, carpets and rugs, it is important to know what type of ink you are dealing with. For example, you may be dealing with oil-based ink or water-based ink. Both types of ink require different treatment. Below, we explain how you can remove both types of ink stains.

Treatment of oil-based ink stains

To treat oil-based ink stains, use James Stainspray and a clean, white terry cloth towel. James Stainspray has been specially developed for removing oil and grease stains from carpets and upholstery. In the step-by-step plan below, we explain how you can best do this:

1. Apply a small amount of James Stainspray to an inconspicuous area of the carpet or upholstery. Allow to dry and assess the colour and material fastness of the fabric.
2. Spray an even amount of James Stainspray onto the dry, white terry cloth towel.
3. Using the towel, wipe the ink stain with large, gentle strokes without spreading it further. Repeat this treatment several times, using a clean section of the towel each time.
4. If any traces of the ink stain remain, spray James Stainspray directly onto the residue. Once again, use a clean terry towel to rub out the residue with large, gentle strokes.
5. Assess the result and check whether the stain has completely disappeared. If necessary, repeat the treatment with James Stainspray until the stain is completely removed.

Treatment of water-based ink stains

If you want to remove water-based ink stains from upholstery fabric or carpet, in 90% of cases you can do so using cold water and a clean, white terry towel.

Wet the towel, wring it out thoroughly and place it flat on the ink stain. Leave the towel in place until it is completely dry and assess the result. Water-based stains can usually be removed in this way.

However, are you dealing with a stubborn or dried ink stain? Then you can treat them with James Stainwonder. Follow the steps below for effective treatment of stubborn ink stains with James Stainwonder:

1. Test James Stainwonder on an inconspicuous area of the fabric. Apply a small amount of James Stainwonder, allow it to dry, and assess the colour and material fastness.
2. Ensure that the stain is completely dry before you begin treatment.
3. Hold the bottle of James Stainwonder upside down and place the opening of the bottle directly on the ink stain. Spread James Stainwonder evenly over the entire ink stain.
4. The product is effective for 12 hours. This means that the effect may not be immediately visible.
5. Assess whether the ink stain has completely disappeared after treatment. If the stain has not completely disappeared but has improved, you may repeat the treatment.

Removing ink stains from floors

To remove ink stains from floors, use James Remover. This powerful product is specially designed for removing stubborn stains from hard floors, including PVC, laminate, vinyl, linoleum and natural stone floors. In the step-by-step plan below, we explain how to remove ink stains with James Remover:

1. Always test the surface in an inconspicuous place for colour and material resistance. Apply a small amount of James Remover to the test area, leave it to work for 5 minutes, wipe it away, rinse with clean water and then assess the reaction of the floor.
2. Spray James Remover directly onto the ink stain and leave it to work for approximately 1 to 5 minutes.
3. Use a white cotton terry towel to gently absorb the contamination.
4. If necessary, gently treat stubborn stains with a soft brush or plastic spatula to remove excess residue.
5. After removing the ink stain, thoroughly rinse the treated area with clean water. Ensure that no residue from James Remover remains on the floor.

Please note: exercise caution when working near joints. In that case, allow James Remover to work for only a short time and ensure that the product cannot penetrate the joint.
